ArchivedPurgatoryAieno Wrote In Matthew, Jesus speaks about the deadly (mortal) sin of sinning against the Holy Spirit: "And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or the age to come" (Matt 12:32). So Aieno you stated before that Christ has already "purged" our sins and we can enter Gods kingdom without the need of purgatory. What about if I am a "saved" Christian and I speak against the Holy Spirit? The Bible says God will not forgive me in this age or the age to come, basically speaking after death. So were does this predicament leave me? I have accepted Christ So I am "Sola Fide" (saved by faith alone) according to most protestant denominations. What now? one sin against the Holy Spirit and I will go to hell? no, is it heaven? no, the obvious answer is Purgatory. Aieno Wrote Purgatory is mentioned in parables in both the OT and NT. The word purgatory is not mentioned in the bible, but then again the word Bible itself isnt mentioned either. The word trinity is also not mentioned in the bible! Here are some Bible verses which indicate a state of purification after death: Matt. 12:32, 1 Cor 3:15, 1 Peter 3:19, Hebrews 12:14, Rev. 21:27. Macc. 12:43–45. Aieno Wrote 2 Macabees like the preceding one, receives its title from its protagonist, Judas Maccabee (or Maccabeus), it is not a sequel to 1 Maccabees. The two differ in many respects. Whereas the first covers the period from the beginning of the reign of Antiochus IV (175 B.C.) to the accession of John Hyrcanus I (134 B.C.), this present book treats of the events in Jewish history from the time of the high priest Onias III and King Seleucus IV (c. 180 B.C.) to the defeat of Nicanor's army (161 B.C.). Without Christs death we would have no chance to get to heaven threw purgatory, as being saved yet not perfect as God wants us to be! |
