ArchivedReality v.s. TraditionAineo Wrote You ask some very Simply Jusifiable Questions infact I will answer them using your method of Sola Scripture. Our Lord presented celibacy as a legitimate lifestyle not only by His very life, since He never married, but also in His teaching. When Our Lord emphasized that marriage was a covenant between husband and wife and thereby prohibited divorce and re-marriage (cf. Mt 19:3-12), He concluded, "Some men are incapable of sexual activity from birth; some have been deliberately made so; and some there are who have freely renounced sex for the sake of God’s reign." Traditionally, our Church — as cited in the Catechism (no. 1579) — points to this "free renunciation of sex for the sake of God’s reign" as a basis for celibacy. Matthew 19-11-12 11Jesus replied, "Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage[3] because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it." Read your Bible Aieno, celibacy is Biblical. In Matthew 23:1-12, when Jesus tells us to call no man "father" or "teacher," He is using figurative language to emphasize that all legitimate authority and truth ultimately come from God. We are not to take these passages literally. Throughout the Bible men are called fathers and teachers. Both Catholics and Protestants call earthly men fathers,no man means no man including your earthly father Aieno. If you are going to take it so literally it should also include him. St. Stephen and St. Paul call the Jewish religious leaders "fathers" (Acts 7:2 and 22:1). St. Paul calls the Corinthians; "my beloved children..., for I became your father in Christ Jesus through the Gospel" (I Cor 4:14-15; also see 1 Thess 2:11, 1 Tim 1:2, and Tit 1:4). St Paul became their Spiritual Father Aieno, dont take all the Bible so literally. you have been refuted again, as I have also answered you using Sola Scripture,no tradition yet. As you know I have discussed the following with you a number of times. immaculate conception, the perpetual virginity of Mary, the assumption of Mary and Purgatory. We are currently discussing Purgatory in another thread,so I wont answer fully. I will give a small quote from the Bible. I Peter 3:19 "By which also He went and preached unto the spirits in "prison" Heaven is not a prison and there would be no point in preaching in hell. Peace |
