Archivedstatus of women in bibleBeliever wrote:fatah wrote:Bushmaster wrote:Before we handle your topic I have a personal question, when you signed up to this forum you said "I come to this forum because I want to clarify misiformation about islam on this forum"
Is this how you do it?
That is what I had said and that is what I am trying to do as we both are the people of Book, Qur'an picked up where Bible left. It is a common knowledge that other religions especialy christianity and its followers especialy missionary propogate, that Islam condone second class treatment of women, which in reality is not true, actually it raises the status of the women, by raising her from status of desire to a equal entity. This is the purpose of my post.
Actually the Gospels picks up and establishes more equality and freedom for women.
Women won't be sex toys in Heaven or after the Ressurection, they'll be sacred beings like angels. No one will even remain married in Heaven!
Where in Islam is this verified
Matthew 22:30
When people rise from death, men and women do not marry. But they are like angels in heaven.
Jesus was very kind to these women.
Matthew 9
20 A woman had a sickness for twelve years. She was bleeding all the time. She came behind Jesus and touched his clothes.
21 She said to herself, `If only I touch his clothes, I will be well.'
22 Jesus turned around. He saw her and said, `Daughter, be glad. You were healed because you believed.' And right away the woman was healed.
Matthew 15:27
Then Jesus answered, `Woman, you believe very much. The thing you want me to do will be done.' And her daughter was healed at that very time.
Luke 7:36-50
36 One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to come and eat with him. So Jesus went into the Pharisee's house and sat down to eat.
37 In that city was a bad woman. When she knew that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee's house, she came and brought a bottle of oil. It was oil that smelled very sweet and cost much money.
38 She stood behind Jesus by his feet, and she was crying. She began to wash his feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. Then she kissed his feet and put oil on them.
39 The Pharisee who had asked Jesus to his house saw this. He said to himself, `If this man were a prophet of God, he would know what kind of woman is touching him. She is a bad woman.'
40 Jesus said to him, `Simon, I have something to say to you.' And he said, `Teacher, say it.'
41 Jesus said, `There was a man who used to lend money to people. Two people owed him money. One man owed him five hundred pieces of silver money. The other owed him fifty pieces.
42 They could not pay the money, so he let them both free. Now which one of them will love him more?'
43 Simon answered, `I would say the one he let off the most.' Jesus said, `You are right.'
44 Then he turned towards the woman. He said to Simon, `Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me water to wash my feet. But she has washed my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
45 You did not kiss me. But since she came in, she has kissed my feet again and again.
46 You did not put oil on my head. But she has put sweet smelling oil on my feet.
47 So I tell you, she has done many wrong things, but she has been forgiven because she loved me so much. But one who has been forgiven a little loves me only a little'
48 Jesus said to the woman, `The wrong things you have done are forgiven.'
49 Then those who were at the table with him began to say to themselves, `Who is this man? He even forgives people for the wrong things they have done.'
50 Jesus said to the woman, `You are saved because you believed. Go in peace.'
Jesus says all divorce is wrong and when someone divorces and remarried, he/she commits adultery.
Where in Islam is this verified? It is not verified, Islam regresses from this teaching. The Quran upholds a human precept written by Moses, it did not come from God.
Matthew 19:9
But I tell you this. No man may send his wife away unless she has committed adultery. If he does, and if he marries another woman, he commits adultery. And if a man marries a woman who has been sent away by her husband, he commits adultery.'
Jesus spared the adulteress from being stone. He had love for her.
In Islam it is legal to stone adultersses.
This law in the Quran is from a human precept written by Moses, it was not from God. Islam again regresses from the Gospels.
John 8:3-11
3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman to Jesus. They had caught her having sex with a man who was not her husband. They made the woman stand in front of them.
4 They said, `Teacher, this woman has committed adultery. She was caught doing it.
5 The law of Moses tells us that the people who do that should be killed with stones. What do you say?'
6 They said this to see what Jesus would do, because they wanted to find something wrong with him. Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger.
7 They kept on asking him. He stood up and said to them, `The one among you who has never done any wrong thing may throw the first stone at her.'
8 And Jesus bent down again and wrote on the ground.
9 When the people heard what he said, they went out, one by one. The oldest one went out first. Jesus was left alone with the woman in front of him.
10 Jesus looked up and said to her, `Woman, where are the people? Has no one judged you?'
11 She said, `No one, Sir.' Jesus said, `I also do not judge you. Go, and do no wrong thing again.'
How about these? Does Islam confirm these?
1 Timothy 5:2
Talk to the older women like mothers. Talk to the young women like sisters. And be sure to keep a clean mind and heart in all this.
1 Timothy 2:9-10
9 I also want women to wear the right kind of clothes. They should not make a show of themselves, but use good sense. They should not fix up their hair in a fancy way, or wear gold and fine stones, or clothes that cost much money.
10 But women should busy themselves with good works. This is the right thing for women who say they
1 Timothy 5:14
So I would like young women to marry again and have children. They should care for their homes. They should do nothing that would make the enemy say wrong things about them.
1 Timothy 5:16
Do any Christians have in their families women whose husbands are dead? If they do, they should help them. The church people should not have to care for them. Then the church can help the women who have no one to help them.
It is good to talk to a Zorastrian, I have studied under parsi teachers and lived most of my early life among them, found them to be nice and friendly people. I do not deny what you quote from bible, but what I quote is also from the bible why dont you accept it, actually by debating on the quote from bible which I posted you are arguing the validity of the bible, which is not point.
As for Quran picking up from where bible left off, bible declare a women in menses to be out cast, untouchable, in Islam she has a normal life other than not have intimate contact with her husband.
In bible a maid child is not desirable, in Islam it is forbidden to wish for a particular gender.
In bible women can not own the property, but her self is the property of her husband, in Islam women is a entity within her self, she can own her own property even after the marriage, have her own business and income seprate from her husband (this we are talking more than 1400 years back when women in christainity was no more better treated than a animal).
