Archivedstatus of women in bible :: Re: status of women in bible Can I at least try to explain this before my fellow brothers come?
fatah wrote:Genesis 3:16! Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
This is taken out of context. I know you're not really trying to make it seem as if men and women are not equal since in islam it's the same [if not worse], but let me explain this. Eve was disobedient. I'm sure if she were [along with Adam] good, they would multiply without pain. This is what He said to the devil:
Gen 3 14,15
So the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this,
"Cursed are you above all the livestock
and all the wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring [1] and hers;
he will crush [2] your head,
and you will strike his heel."
So I guess the devil had a hard time too.
The purpose of this quote from the book was that Bible condones the status of women as the second class citizen, thus man is the ruler of her
Ephesians 5:22-24! (22) Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. (23) For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body. (24) Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
somone can explain this better than me, but you forgot to add this important verse of 5:25-31:
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and fatah wrote:blameless. 28In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church-- 30for we are members of his body. 31"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."
In other words the man should treat the wife with the utmost respect and love her as he would love himself and God. He also must submit to his wife.
I will wait for osme one else to answer this before I response.
Leviticus is a group of laws that no longer exist since the coming of Christ so these laws don't apply to christians If I'm not mistaken muslims follow those similar laws with the woman and her period.
This is your opinion but church says otherwise. No in Islam women during the time of the month is not treated like a lepper, she interact with members of the family as normal, she shares the same bed with her husband, though no intimate contact is permitted.

We read in book of Numberswomen cursed)
005:014
And the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled:
005:015
Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is an offering of jealousy, an offering of memorial, bringing iniquity to remembrance.
005:024
And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter.
005:025
Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering out of the woman's hand, and shall wave the offering before the LORD, and offer it upon the altar:
005:026
And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water.
005:027
And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people.
You forgot the important part again.
Numbers: 5-7
5 The LORD said to Moses, 6 "Say to the Israelites: 'When a man or woman wrongs another in any way [2] and so is unfaithful to the LORD , that person is guilty 7 and must confess the sin he has committed. He must make full restitution for his wrong, add one fifth to it and give it all to the person he has wronged.
You mainly focused on a woman being unfaithful. If I'm not mistaken, a man in islam can just say "I divorce you" three times and he is free of his wife regardless or what she did or did not do. Also Iman ali said about this in islam: "123. Jealousy in woman is unpardonable but in man it is a sign of his faith in religion (because Islam has permitted polygamy and prohibited polyandry)."
No this only partly true a husband just by saying I divorce you three time does not get away as easily as you have made it look, and yes polygamy is permitted but not propogated, there are many restriction, by the end of the debate you will come to know that it is not easy for a muslim to marry more than once, if he is a practising muslim, and keep in mind there are more than a billion muslims worldwide, can you give statistics as to how many muslim men marry more than once, during the life time of the present wife.

I choose to touch this subject as this is the subject that is thrown around on all such forum. I have started it by quoting from different books of bible( no disrespect intended), I have read some responses by the muslim members, which left much to be desired, I will try my best to set the record staright on this topic if there are any enquiries.
I'll let the others handle the rest because they will do better than me. Basically you're talking about the past [from which you are basing most of your "doctrines" on ] Try reading the new testament and you will have a better understanding of it all.
I too will wait for others to respond, I am on this board not to make any one look bad, but create a better understanding, that is to understand each other we have to look at the whole picture and not just a small portion of it.
