ArchivedHeres my thoughts..I wonder where people get the idea that Christianity is a religion of tolerance. Love, yes; tolerance no. To simply tolerate a behavior is to be lukewarm. I can (and do) love my gay and lesbian friends but that does mean I have to like or tolerate a lifestyle contrary to Biblical truth. Discrimination, hate, bias, and prejudice are not innate they are taught and usually at home. In mixed social situations it is just common courtesy to take other people into consideration where public displays of affection are concerned. My extended biological family is close and affectionate; it is not uncommon for male relatives to hug, walk or talk with an arm over the shoulder of a cousin, nephew, etc. so open affection is not discouraged. However, my gay and lesbian relatives do not make overt displays of their intimate relationships at family gatherings and neither do my ever-straight relatives. I have experienced more controversy about wearing an earring than I have experienced taking my partner to family reunions. |
