Free For all - Open Discussions and DebatesI am confused
You are putting words in my mouth. I haven't accused anyone of being weak-minded, nor have I even thought it. Quite the contrary in fact, because in my opinion, a weak minded person is easily swayed and influenced. Therefore, I haven't encountered anyone on this forum that I would describe as weak-minded! (I find it interesting that you should make that interpretation however.)
I quite agree and have not said anything to the contrary.
I don't have faith in science because I don't treat it as a religion. I don't have a religion, nor do I need one. Science doesn't feed the poor or house the homeless and I have never claimed it does. I totally agree with you, but I have never said anything to the contrary on this point. I think the question of how one chooses to live their life is extremely important. But you certainly don't need the aid of religion to feed the poor, house the homeless, clothe the naked or perform any charitable or generous deed. In fact, some statistics suggest that Atheists are often more generous when it comes to making Third World donations than Christians. I don't know if this is true, I haven't seen the evidence, but certainly an Athiest isn't simply going to trust in the beneficence of God to solve the problem, because he/she knows that will be a very, very long wait!
In your last post, you accused me of name-calling. I haven't called anyone a name. I have expressed some of my opinions on various philosophical, religious and scientific viewpoints in an honest and forthright manner, (and you have responded in a similarly frank and forthright manner) but I have not set out to personally attack anyone; I haven't described anyone as weak-minded and I haven't resorted to calling anyone a name. If I have made a specific comment that has caused you offence, then please say so, but no one has the right to falsely accuse anyone. |
