I'm sorry, folks, but no one goes to hell because of sins. If they did, then Jesus' sacrifice was in vain. Hebrews 2 tells us He tasted death for ALL. All sin has been atoned for. Not one insult will be left standing unpaid before God for eternity.
That is why salvation is not based on not sinning, but on belief in Christ. And then a new birth in Him.
Geshtinnanna, I absolutely agree with you about the way many Christians approach unbelievers. Although hell is real, it is not fear that should be the difference in your life. Our lives as Christians should be reflecting Christ to such an extent that you would want to know why we are the way we are, despite poverty or sickness or anything else. And we are instructed to be able to give an answer for the hope we have.
So I want to apologize to you for the way you have been approached. Jesus spoke about hell/death primarily to the religious leaders of His day. To the people He spoke of God and He fed and healed and was with them.
We are told by Paul in Romans 8:9 that if someone does not have the Spirit of Christ within him then that person does not belong to Christ.
I would advise you that when you want to ask about Christianity or Christ, seek out the quiet people who are simply living the lives Christ is leading them to live and ask them about it. The answers you get will not have a lot of theological terms involved, but they will share the truth of Christ with you and not pound you on the head with threats....
