Homosexual Discussion ForumWhy is being gay wrong? :: Re: Why is being gay wrong? There is nothing wrong with being gay, just as being gay does not harm anyone any more than being straight harms anyone. God does not like homosexuality for the same reason God does not like adultery and fornication since these behaviors violate His design for human sexuality. Now you have opened a can of worms that causes a lot of rancor on the part of those who appeal to traditions that contradict and try to nullify what annihilationists believe is actually taught in the Bible. The concept of "eternal punishment in the lake of fire" was imported into Christianity by Greeks who used Greek philosophy to interpret the Hebrew Scriptures. Clement and Origen of Alexandria were greatly influenced by Plato and Neoplatonism and Augustine of Hippo was influenced by Aristotelian philosophy. Plato's Myth of Er is probably the genesis of this traditional doctrine as well as the concept that mankind has an immortal soul that continues to exist after death. Both sides of this issue can claim Biblical support for their position, however traditionalists have to ignore that Scripture tells us that a "living soul" is the body + the breath of life (spirit) = a living soul (Genesis 2:7) and that when we die our bodies return to dust, our spirit (breath of life) returns to God who gave it and that our thoughts cease to exist. (Psalm 146:3, Ecclesiastes 12:16). |
