Quran and Bible debateIs Jesus Creation Truly Like Unto Adams?I don't disagree. There is but one God, the Father, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Here is a response from another Muslim who does not believe in the virgin birth. The following is my response to him: Areef Hamdi, I have looked at the translation by M. Asad and I don't see how you could reach any conclusion other than the same arrived at by the majority -- that Jesus was conceived by a virgin. The following verses seem to point, unequivocally, to a Mary who was still a virgin when she conceived and gave birth to Jesus.
In the first response, we see that Mary says she has not been touched by a man. She reiterates that she is not a loose woman -- she is not a fornicator. So the angels response is that, while this is true, Allah has decreed the birth of the child to be a symbol (miracle), and to show his grace on mankind (indicating a particular purpose not explained by Muslims). After the chat with the angel, we are immediately informed that Mary conceived, as promised and went away. Then we fast forward to v. 28, where we find Mary returning to her people and being question about the child. The first thing that comes to mind is that she has been sleeping around (i.e., they remind Mary that her mother was not a loose woman). It is interesting to note that Joseph is not mentioned anywhere in this text, and does not seem to be present at all during the whole pregnancy and childbirth. Otherwise, they would not question Mary about the child's birth. So, could you please elaborate on how you explain the above text? I went to the link you gave, but the link for Jesus' birth does not work. It says the page does not exist. |
