Free For all - Open Discussions and DebatesFaith is blind and downright dangerousI have to address a misconception might help at least clarify positions. Michael said that: A true Christian acts from an exactly opposite motivation. He knows that because his faith (there's that word) is in Christ, he has nothing to fear from hell. This frees Christians to love as Christ loved - without self-interest. That doesn't mean we do love that way, and sadly it seems we mostly don't, it just means we are free to. Ultimately, fear driven "Christian" behaviour is not evidence of faith in practice, but of a lack of it. The love we are called to is that of I Corinthians 13, which is difficult mostly because it requires us to give up our own self-interest. Whether we succeed or not depends on our faith. Those who believe in Christ do not have to fear, because "there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." Romans 8:1. Ultimately the message of Christ is not that if we live well, we will be justified, because in reality none of us can live well without Him. Instead, it is that if we place our faith in Him, we are actually free to live well because we are no longer under a death sentence. |
