Free For all - Open Discussions and DebatesFaith is blind and downright dangerousThis can be replaced for the reasons MatthewGS gave for a Athiest Humanist doing good deeds. You are right Aineo, we should not do good works out of fear. Good works come after faith, but we can have faith because of fear. For example: I admit, I do fear to go to hell, but the Bible teaches that the fear of God is the beginning of all wisdom. Therefore, if fear is the first stage, love can come after. So, I am not only a Christian because of fear, but because I truly have a love for God, though that love is not perfected yet. With this said, love and fear are synonymous in many aspects of life. Let’s say for example that a child refuses to do something for fear of being grounded. When that child grows up and sees the consequences of others that did not listen to their parents, he/she can appreciate what their parents taught them, which is an act of love. You might say that the fear of God is better interpretated as reverence for Him, which we are to have. But this fear is also trembling in His presence. Unless of course He tells us to "fear not" knowing we are doing His will. |
