ArchivedIs Myrrh the Bible what we call Marijuana today? Unconvinced wrote:Strong drink is beneficial too?
Seems to me strong drink indicates getting hammered, nevermind the fact your verse does not indicate a limit on wine or strong drink. I would say the arguement stands, unless you can pull out a verse that tells us to drink strong drink moderately.
Another Biblical contradiction to heap upon the pile.
See the following for what the Bible has to say about dissipation. Unconvinced wrote:And you may spend the money on whatever your heart desires
What if my heart desired a big bag of weed to smoke?
You know cannabis has been around for ever. Someone was smoking it, and those people were most likely in the middle east in those days.
PS. To believe that wine existed merely for medicinal purposes is a long shot.
You really like to pull what people post out of context don’t you? Wine was not limited to medicinal purposes in Biblical times. Wine was part of meals and celebrations both religious and secular. Only in the United States is the use of alcoholic beverages scorned by extreme fundamentalists, which can be easily verified by asking any European Christian. Wine use is common in Europe and other nations where even children drink it. What is frowned on is drinking to excess.
Proverbs 31:1-7
31:1 The words of King Lemuel, the oracle which his mother taught him.
2 What, O my son?
And what, O son of my womb?
And what, O son of my vows?
3 Do not give your strength to women,
Or your ways to that which destroys kings.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel,
It is not for kings to drink wine,
Or for rulers to desire strong drink,
5 Lest they drink and forget what is decreed,
And pervert the rights of all the afflicted.
6 Give strong drink to him who is perishing,
And wine to him whose life is bitter.
7 Let him drink and forget his poverty,
And remember his trouble no more. NAS
Isaiah 5:11
11 Woe to those who rise early in the morning that they may pursue strong drink;,
Who stay up late in the evening that wine may inflame them! NAS
Isaiah 5:22-23
22 Woe to those who are heroes in drinking wine,
And valiant men in mixing strong drink;
23 Who justify the wicked for a bribe,
And take away the rights of the ones who are in the right! NAS
Isaiah 28:7
7 And these also reel with wine and stagger from strong drink:
The priest and the prophet reel with strong drink,
They are confused by wine, they stagger from strong drink;
They reel while having visions,
They totter when rendering judgment. NAS
Isaiah 56:12
12 "Come," they say, "let us get wine, and let us drink heavily of strong drink;
And tomorrow will be like today, only more so." NAS
Luke 21:34-36
34 "Be on guard, that your hearts may not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day come on you suddenly like a trap; 35 for it will come upon all those who dwell on the face of all the earth. 36 "But keep on the alert at all times, praying in order that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man." NAS
Ephesians 5:18-21
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; 20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; 21 and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.
NAS
As to smoking, there is no evidence that smoking cannabis existed in Asia prior to the discover of tobacco in western hemisphere, although there is a lot of evidence cannabis (hemp) was used in religious ceremonies and for medicinal use in Asia as far back as the 8th century B.C.
As to myrrh: Frankincense and myrrh are both resins -- dried tree sap -- that come from trees of the genus Boswellia (frankincense) and Commiphora (myrhh), which are common to Somalia.
The way that people collect the sap is similar to the way people collect rubber-tree sap or pine-tree sap. Cutting the tree's bark causes the sap to ooze out of the cut. The sap used to create both frankincense and myrrh comes slowly and is allowed to dry on the tree. The hardened sap is collected and used as frankincense and myrrh.
Both in the time of the three wise men and today, frankincense and myrrh are most commonly used to create incense. You mix frankincense with things like spices, seeds and roots to create different aromas. Traditionally, you burn the powdered incense with charcoal in a censer or on a small stand.
Frankincense and myrrh are extremely common today, and you can buy them from places such as this Web site.

As to finding another Biblical contradiction that is simply your fantasy derived from a lack of real knowledge or desire to know the truth concerning what the Bible teaches.
