ArchivedCorrections in the Bible...Ok...this, of course, raises more questions for me. Keep in mind, knowing what I'm asking I really don't want this to deteriorate into nastyness, I'm simply curious... Then which one is the true word of God? I have seen discussions in multiple places on this forum where a verse or chapter implies a completely different meaning than the exact same verse and chapter in a different Bible. Likewise, from what I've seen, sometimes even chapters/verses in one Bible that may repeat approximately the same thing in a different place in the Bible has a different emphasis. Aineo: It's obvious to me that you are educated in these matters, however I'm hard pressed to accept that all of these differing translations still encompass the Word of God as was origionally written in Hebrew. I can accept that the word has been altered througout history (after all, History isn't written by who's right, it's written by who's left), and I can accept that the translations muddy the waters as well. I can accept that Faith is required to accept the word of God as the Word, however for one that does not have faith (such as myself) - how is a person to know what is accurate and what is not? As a secondary question, if there is a conflict between Bibles, who is really to say (between Christians) who is correct and who is going to Hell? Like I said, I'm not trying to be difficult...it's just curiousity that has me involved here at all With Science (most of the time) it's easy enough to prove what is and what isn't (I'm talking simple science here, not Theory or Quantum ), however when it comes to a 2000 year old collection of books which have been translated (and mistranslated) multiple times, with so many language barriers in the way...well...I just find it extremely difficult to believe that *anyone* has gotten it figured out... Thanks in advance...this thread is really helping me understand Christianity. |
