Homosexual Discussion ForumHomosexuality and the BibleNow you are getting technical on me. You have to take the fact I have not taken a math class since high school into consideration and that was 43 years ago. I am not making excuses, just showing you that your question is irrational, not in a mathematical sense but in the fact you are attempting to build a case on only a part of the description of the brazen sea. You left out the decorations encircling the lip which should be taken into consideration. You are also ignoring how much water the brazen sea could hold. A Biblical "bath" was equal to 9 gallons so the sea contained 18,000 gallons of water so it weighed 72 tons without taking the bronze into consideration. The fact is there is insufficient information supplied in 1 Kings to prove or disprove your thesis. You are also ignoring that other than the Law (which God dictated to Moses) the Bible was written by men under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, which means men wrote (in there own words and by their own knowledge). The Holy Spirit did not give these men supernatural knowledge concerning physics, anatomy, math, or any other scientific discipline. Ah, now you are being clear. I will concede the accuracy of your statement. The historical sections of the Bible record the actions of certain people and since humans are human with human weaknesses the Bible does not portray Biblical icons as perfect or without flaws. I will save you a bit of reading and research. Shall we start with Abraham? He was a bit of a liar when he thought it was to his advantage. Sarah, his wife was also his half sister. Abraham lied to a king about his relationship to Sarah by telling the king Sarah was his sister but not his wife because he thought the king would kill him to get Sarah for a wife. King David had a man killed to cover up his adulterous relationship with the man's wife. King Solomon had 300 wives, and about 900 concubines. There are a plethora of accounts of immoral actions in the Bible. Now what were the consequences of these acts? For Abraham a slap on the wrist; for David he was judged by God and suffered the death of the child born as a result of the adulterous affair, one of his sons raped one of his half sisters who was the full sister of his oldest son who then arranged the murder of the rapist, his oldest son rebelled and tried to take over his kingdom and then was killed. Solomon's punishment was he was the last king of the combined Kingdoms of Judah and Israel. I can list a lot more but I think you see my point; behavior has consequences. God is teaching moral values by example as well as by Laws. One aspect of the Bible that actually contributes to it authenticity (at least in my mind) is the fact that the Biblical icons are portrayed a real people with real flaws. They are not portrayed as perfect, flawless human beings. You don’t have to be flawless in your questions just be direct with direct questions. For instance does the Bible record immoral behavior? The answer is a simple and direct yes. |
