Homosexual Discussion ForumHomosexuality and the BibleWhen you say valid do you mean acceptable? If so, concession accepted. Yes, so as stated before Paul derived his reiteration from this part of the Bible and it's one of the things they decide still "stands". Although I still don't see the logic in the distinction between moral codes and traditional codes. It sounds like a cop out to me. God is the same today, yesterday and always. That account includes him in the story, and it states QUITE clearly that Lot was a GOOD MAN by the Lord's standards. You are excusing his words and actions in a very hypocritical way. The object of the account means we can ignore parts that look bad? Because it was before the written law it must have been ok THEN? So God on one hand never changes and what he believes is right and wrong has always been constant, yet for this story it's ok to look at Lot's offer to toss his daughters out to the mob as an irrelevant thing? You do realize how ludicrous your explanation sounds don't you? God himself says that man is morally good. If you can't agree with his actions that he was going to perform to "save" his guests, then you disagree with God and the morality of that part of the Bible. Then you have to go down the slippery slope with me.
When you say valid do you mean acceptable? If so, concession accepted. So in other words, a TRUE Christian would believe that sexual sin should be punished by murdering the ones who have done so. That's the true, best and moral answer to this. Lovely. I'm very proud to say that I think that's a disgusting and foolish way of thinking and I think it's morally reprehensible. If God really thinks like that, then I don't want to know him at all. Yes. Conveniently due to that "tradition versus moral law" thing. I still don't see the logic behind it, but ok. I'll let it be. Sorry, I may have. My head starts spinning sometimes discussing this. I find it very hard to follow some of the logic surrounding parts of these discussions. I'm trying though. How is it ludicrous? My point is not in reference to faith in things unseen. We have no scientific evidence on the afterlife (because it can't be observed), so religious beliefs have complete equanamity on such a topic. You can believe what you will, and no one can dispute it. But once you ener the topic of THIS world, and things that can be deduced with the five senses, then your enter into the realm of Science. And that's a god that CAN be proved. The whole point of me posting here is to address the issue of homosexuality. It's something that CAN be measured, tested and evaluated here, so it falls under the heading of science. This is why I'm trying to put the basic point across that religious opinions on sexuality are in no way sensible to believe as correct if our evidence through science shows them to be contrary. Since as you have admitted, the MAJORITY of medical science indisputably agrees that homosexuality is NOT harmful, unnatural or in any way "evil", it has far more weight than the Bible could EVER have on those subjects. If you believe in God, then you believe god made the world and nature. Science is simply describing what we can observe. If it proves something, then it's showing what God really is about. So in those cases, the Bible needs an update and a reality smack. I am thankful. I'm also thankful it's not the middle ages because Christianity was just as bad as fanatical Islam is now. Besides, Islam is an offshoot of Judaism as is Christianity. Judaism is the originator of the anti-gay foolishness. Most other religions outside that particular one and it's offsprings have very little to say about homosexuality. You're probably right. I can't change someone's mind when it's already made up. I have shown exactly that with post after post, but you can't see it because you would have to critically examine your faith first. I can see why most people just don't bother to debate true believers. Logic fails to be heard once it crosses a certain line. Tell that to the Pope that had Galileo thrown in jail for heresy. You are not aware of your own Biblical history? |
