ArchivedShould the Bible and the Quran even be compared?I don't think so. They seem, to me, two radically different texts, too different to be compared. And what's more - the Qu'ran seems to acknowledge the authority of the Bible. In the translation used in this debate, the Qu'ran makes repeated reference to "the Scriptures" (which, in seperate, more accurate translations, becomes "the Book," or "the Bible," and "the Torah"). The Scriptures the Qu'ran is ascribing authority to is certainly the Bible we, as Christians and Jews, ascribe authority to. Therefore, the Qu'ran is establishing itself not as a replacement text, but as a suppliment text; a revelation from God that acknowledges the revelations of the past. |
