Archived7th century timelinePeace Believer, Is not the king that is being spoken of in the parable actually Jesus Christ? Then tell me why is Jesus Christ instructing that those who reject him as king should be put to death? I read an explanation of this parable on a Christian website, and when it came to verse 27, this is what they wrote: “This seems pretty strong. The word translated "kill" is Greek katasphazo, "slaughter, strike down."[19] The listeners in Jericho recalled how King Archelaus slaughtered his enemies, and recognized how the parable was true to life. You are not God's enemy when you fail. He loves you. He is there to encourage you to try again as he did Peter (John 21:15-17). But you are God's enemy when you set your will against his and refuse to use productively what he has given you. That is a dangerous place in which to stand, as an enemy of God.” http://www.jesuswalk.com/lessons/19_11-27.htm Yeah I’ve read this explanation on several sites. Even though I don’t agree, there’s really no point arguing about it. But you know when Jesus says “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword”, what is your interpretation of this verse?
The swords were meant for a purpose. When Jesus had told his disciples to sell their garments for swords, it was for protection. It was not to carry around Jerusalem for self protection. They were armed with sticks and stones and 2 swords. And where did Jesus take them? To Gethsemane. Why, to Gethsemane? Read how Jesus positioned 8 at the front gate, and he took James, John and Peter further into the Garden. Jesus is obviously was preparing his disciple for war; Jews against Jews. Can you offer a better explanation? Did he? From the "call to arms" in the upper-room, and the masterful deployment of forces at Gethsemane, and the blood-sweating prayer to the God of Mercy for help, it appears that Jesus knew nothing about the contract for his crucifixion. It reminds one of the Biblical Abraham, leading his son to the slaughter with the bluff that the Lord will provide a 'scape-goat.' And Allah knows best Peace and Blessings be to the Believers |
