Detailed studies -- case studies -- are the opposite of what I want. I want something with a control group. I want something that doesn't assume its conclusion. And I really don't want to read the testimonials on Exodus' website again. Too many of them make my skin crawl... especially having learned that at least one of them is by a man who ended up commiting suicide.
I would love to be able to believe that it is possible for anyone with sufficient motivation to change their orientation. I would love to be able to believe that the attempt is never harmful. I can't. I've heard too many stories to the contrary.
I'm glad it worked for you. But until there are studies to show that it works for more than a small minority, and that it does not, in fact, make more people worse than better... I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I also think that a study to demonstrate the above would be relatively simple for an organization like Exodus to do. The burden of demonstrating their effectiveness should not be placed on "gay activists."
