Reparative therapy or conversion therapy depending on who you speak to is a personal choice, not something that can be mandated by Exodus or anyone else. If you would take the time to check out "Desires In Conflict" you will see that Joe Dallas states that therapy is not effective unless the individual is willing to put forth the time and effort in counseling. I have never insisted that any gay man or lesbian woman change their sexuality. It is a personal choice that requires counting the costs and the costs are high in personal effort.
As to Exodus having a moral obligation to tell people the truth they do! I can't say the same for gay activists who call the ex-gay movement a fraud and people like me living a self deceived life in an attempt to gain approval from bigots. Like you I object to people who don't know me telling me that I don't know my own mind.
People suicide for many reasons and I would imagine that some ex-gays have committed suicide but the fact they are part of the ex-gay movement does not mean their sexuality was the reason. You want to draw conclusions based on insufficient information and use that conclusion for your own purposes.
Exodus admits that up to 25% of ex-gay ministries close down because the founder returned to gay life, lack of financial support and other reasons. As a Christian organization that takes the Bible seriously they are not going to violate "You shall not lie" to validate their ministry unlike gay activists who have "lied" about the percentage of the population that is gblt for decades for political reasons.
One of the APA's stated reason for removing homosexuality from the DSMIII is that homosexuality cannot be cured by the barbaric treatments they attempted. Chemical, electro shock, aversion and many other "professional treatments" have damaged the psyche and bodies of many gay men and lesbian women. Touring, the gay Briton credited with inventing the digital computer, was treated by "professional psychiatrists" with estrogen therapy. The shame and embarrasment he experienced by developing breasts led to his suicide.
Exodus is a Christian organization that works with men and women who seek their help, the APA is a professional organization that has the moral, professional, and perhaps legal responsibility to base their decisions on researched facts, not pressure from one segment of the population and they have the professional responsibility to help a client reach his/her goals not force their subjective decisions down our throats.
As to Exodus being able to back up their claims they can, but you find the testimonies uncomfortable and have chosen to deny their truth. BTW, Exodus is a referral ministry the real work is done by Love in Action, Desert Stream Ministries, Regneration, or the members ministry's that make up Exodus.
As to our society accepting homosexuality as a viable alternate lifestyle not in my lifetime! Your only hope for this is through the courts and their is already a move to ammend the consitution to tie the hands of a liberal court system that has set itself up as law givers in violation of the Consitution.
So you tried Christianity, with all due respect Christianity is not something you try it is something you live. If you chose to accept your emotions as the governing authority of your life and deny God's truth that is your choice.
