ArchivedThe Origins of Hinduism and Buddhism :: TruthTruth You see, this is where western philosophy misses the whole point. You talk about 'God' and call him "good," "just," "moral" if you will, while failing to understand that that which is called 'God' TRANSCENDS good and bad, justice and injustice, the concept of morality; It transcends the world of duality that we call home (and that your bibles call God's abode). Yes! This thing we're calling God drives ALL actions, INCLUDING dishonesty, cheating, killing, for without the omnipresence of this force there is NO ACTION WHATSOEVER, there is no existence, no being, no conciousness. Does that mean that God is "bad"--not at all. Because you can't call this force good OR bad--because it wholely transcends these definitions, these dualities---it transcends definition itself. The life force in all of us--ALL CREATURES--guides us into action--to fulfill our nature. As humans, we have a choice (more so than other creatures) what to do with the guidance of this force--(as described in the Bhagavad Gita as the three Gunas of action). Yes, some of us confuse happiness, the meaning of life with aquiring money, fame, power, prestige, and acting on that confusion--sourced in ignorance--those of us lie and cheat and steal and harm others to get what we want. BY whose power do you think we're acting?? (if not by God's power than by whose??) Others of us, see that the ultimate goal of humanity is to uncover the truth behind our very existence, and we use this force to walk calmly and surely in that direction. By whose power do you think we're acting??? "The ignorant believe in the separateness of the actor, the action and the object of the act, failing to recognize the unity of all three." --Brhd. Upan. "One man believes he is the slayer, another believes he is the slain. Both are ignorant, for there is neigher slayer or slain. That which is within you (Atma) is unborn, eternal, immutable, immemorial, which does not die when the body dies--realizing that which is indestructible, eternal, unborn, and unchanging, how can you slay or cause another to slay??"--Bhagavad Gita You all speak of the "oneness of God" but miss the point of oneness altogether. But, of course, in regards to human nature, confusion is an easy path to walk. |
