Archived7th century timelinePeace Annie, Muslims believe that Jesus is the Messiah, and the Quran confirms it: (Remember) when the angels said: “O Mary! Verily Allah gives you glad tidings of a word [Be! And he was] from Him, his name will be the Messiah Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and in the hereafter, and will be on of those who are near to Allah” (3:45) There are 2 types of plural, the plural of respect and the plural of numbers. When you read Genesis, the word God, is Eloihm in the Hebrew. Now if you translate this word Eloihm literally it means Gods. But offcourse it’s not referring to more than one God, but that it’s a plural of respect to show God’s majesty and such. Simmarily in the Quran, when the word “we” or “us” is used, it isn’t implying multiple Gods, but that it’s showing the reverence of God. As God says in the Quran: Say: “He is Allah, (the) one” (112:1) I hope I have explained it well. Absolutely not! See Annie according to Islam, we believe that the Old Testament has been tampered with by man. However, there can be some truth that still exist in the Old Testament, but as a whole, we do not consider the entire book to be the word of God. We believe in the Torah that was given to Moses, the Gospel of Jesus, and the Psalms of David. You mentioned that in the catholic bible, you have more books than in the KJV. This is a testimony in itself to show you that the Old Testament has been tampered with, because if it was in its original state, then there wouldn’t be any extra books and there would be no debate. The verses that are in the Quran which speak on killing the Mushrik (those who associate partner with God) were revealed when there were hostilities between the Muslims and the unbelievers. Some of these verses were revealed in the heat of a war, to edge on the Muslims because they were out numbered, and others revealed at a time when the non-believers had broken treaties with the Muslims and were selling their possessions. In many verses in the Quran, we are instructed to fight in self defence but if our enemies cease then we too must cease, for God does not love the transgressors. No where in the life of Muhammad, will you find a case where Muhammad and his companions had started killing the unbelievers for entirely no reason. It was always a response to the oppression or the injustice that was done to them. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad, told us in his last sermon, “do not oppress and do not be oppressed”. Meaning we do not believe that one should turn the other cheek if they are feeling oppressed, but that they should defend themselves. This is only natural. I’ll give you a prime example of the justice of Islam: "If one amongst the pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah; and then escort him to where he can be secure that is because they are men without knowledge."[Al-Qur’an 9:6] The Qur’an not only says that a Mushrik seeking asylum during the battle should be granted refuge, but also that he should be escorted to a secure place. In the present international scenario, even a kind, peace-loving army General, during a battle, may let the enemy soldiers go free, if they want peace. But which army General will ever tell his soldiers, that if the enemy soldiers want peace during a battle, don’t just let them go free, but also escort them to a place of security? This is exactly what Allah (swt) says in the Glorious Qur’an to promote peace in the world. And Allah knows best Peace and Blessings be to the Believers |
