Archived7th century timelineLady Fatima, No or at this point I cannot say personally because I am only into the 7th century of in my studies. I do not want to make a judgement call on something that I have not had time to look into in any depth. But you might find this interesting here is a link to the biography of King James who in 1604 at the request of Dr. John Reynolds, a Puritan appointed 54 men to translate the bible http://www.jesus-is-lord.com/kingbio.htm this edition did eclipse all previous and subsequent versions. The period that I was speaking of is often referred to as the dark ages to the reformation in round numbers the dark ages may be considered the thousand years between 500 A.D. and 1500. A number of translations of the Bible was made during this period still the chief tendency of the principal Christian Church (then the Roman Catholic Church) was to keep the Bible away from mankind and to substitute the authority of the church as a rule of life and of belief. If you like here is a brief history of the Bible (I have to say at this point that I find it very interesting that this is when your quran comes into play because as you have said the Quran was given because God felt that his word had been misused or mistranslated) I am going to take this from Hitchocks Complete Analysis of the Bible it is compiled expressly for analysis purposes The Bible - This term means The Book, as much as to say a Book so much beyond any other in importance, as to be worth naming just as if there were no other book at all. The word is Greek and when first used was in plural, Biblia, or "the books." In this form it was first used during the "dark ages" in King of the Vandals; of Clovis, king of the Franks; Atitila; of the landing of Hengist and Horsa in Britain. Indeed, at that time it was no so very long that "the Bible" as we no know it had been recongnized in its present form; for "the canon was closed,' to use the common learned phrase, by the formal adoption of the present books as constituting the New Testament, at the Concil of Carthage, A.D. 397 at the end of the century just before" Ok so we can see here that prior to 397 the "Bible was fashioned from the Canon" Who decided what books went into the New Testament was not decided by one man It at that time was a Universal public oppinion of Christians of that day. They rejected the apocryphal (part of the ones that I linked to above) and this was all done more than likely prior to the death of the Apostle John around 100 AD. During the first and second centures after Christ that is within 170 years (give or take) after his death the whole Bilbel had been translated into Latin then becoming and extensively used as Greek had been a few centuries before by some unknown author, in what is now known as the Old Italic version; and the New Testament had been added to the existing Syriac Old Testament so that by the year 200 the whole Bible was extant in Greek, Syriac, and Latin. It was translated into AEthiopic in the 4th century into Gothic by Ulphilias between 348 and 388 into Egyptian or Coptic before 350 Between 385 and 405 Jerome executed the Vulgate for so long "Authorized Version" During the 4th centry a translation was also made into Persic in the 5th into Armenian in the 6th into Syro-Chalkdaic for the Nestorians in the 7th century into arabic in the 8th into Georgian and at the same time into Anglo Saxon and in the 9th (at least in part) into the Sclavonic. So getting to my point the King James Version came after the period that I as referring to it was an attempt by the protestants to set the it back to its original version. No they don't and I am sorry if I mislead you in that fashion I ment to use it as an example what I meant was "You can go to store and buy a Bible depending on your religious beliefs certain books are included and called the Bible. My question was are all your books the Quran, the Hadith, Torah that was given to Moses, the Gospel of Jesus, and the Psalms of David are all of these combined into one book? I realize that they are each different books just like what we refer to as our Bible is one Book but made of of many. I hope I got that out right. This is really nice addition sort of like the one at the end of our book of Revelations that says If anyone adds or subtracts from this book God will add to him plagues and if anyone takes away from the book God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the Holy City. I want to thank you for sharing with me. It is not often that I find someone that is willing to share and not try to convert me. I like to study a lot of different religious beliefs not because I am not sure of my own. But I am just curious I guess. But I have learned from this expierence and I hope you have too. We live in a big world right now where knowlege about other cultures and beliefs is more available than any other time in history. If we take what we see on TV and in the Newspapers about people and make a generalization that all people are like that then we are wrong. I love the Lord my God with all my heart and I trust in him to allways show me the truth. So when I came to these forums I was confused because everyone is in this big debate that my God is better than your God? But I asked God well who is there God and you know I think I got an answer My God is the God of Abraham and from what I understand your God is the God of Abraham. Not to start off again but I guess I am assuming that the big problem here is people accepting the fact as to if Mohammed was a prophet? If he was or wasn't is not of my concern. Just as the Mormins have a prophet also that explains how the people of the Early America's came about. Or the fact the American Indians have a story passed down through the ages of a man appearing to their great chiefs clothes in white Historians have traced this story back to about the time of Jesus. This man is described not unlike what is described as angels in our religious text. Jesus commanded his disciples to go out into the world and preach the God News What was the Good News? That the Messiah had came and we should love the Lord Our God with all our heart and more but that right now is not up for discussion unless you would like. If God thought that it would profit your people to send a prophet to your country just about the time that the bible was translated into Arabic could it be like you said It is not for me to say that God might have felt the need for some corrections in your translation back then. Here is something for everyone to ponder on. There are so many people now adays that are defenders of God's Word trust me God doesn't need any defenders he is not standing on trial and he is the first and the last Judge you my friends are the ones that will be standing trial (and I do mean everyone here Christian and Muslim) store up your riches in heaven Now before it is too late. Stop trying to take the splinter out of your neighbors eye when you have a big board in yours. Annie |
