Post subject: What is the role of Mary for us today?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Catholics throughout the world today celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven. Marian traditions are shared between a number of Churches, and even between the Catholic Church and some ecclesial communions within the Protestant denominations. (See, for example, the similarities of belief about Mary between the Catholic Church and the "Anglo-Catholic" wing of the Anglican Communion).
However, Marian traditions are not shared by every ecclesial communities, and some ecclesial communities have greatly differing beliefs about Mary.
I wondered, in a spirit of genuine and friendly ecumenical exploration, if we might share what we consider the significance of Mary is for us today? How does she fit into God's plan for us, and what is her ongoing role within the Kingdom of God?
Yours in Christ Jesus,
