In another forum discussion there is currently a topic being discussed on what the true church is. The English word "church" is often used to describe a building with a denominational name on it, or a group of "christians" who belong to a particular religious group.
The actual true Church, as understood by the Bible, and by true believers, is the Body of Christ... those who have accepted that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh, and He died on the cross, and on the third day rose again. For those believers, the understanding of God is that God is ONE God, but expressed in three ways, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
As I read what Omya had quoted, it made me realise that so many in the world look at the word "church" and see it as the attitude of all believers. Those who follow that teaching do venerate and worship Mary in a place I would never put her. She herself never claimed anything but that she was the "hand maiden of the Lord". She knew that accepting God's will for her life, she faced persection, even death by stoning for being pregnant whilst unmarried. She risked the loss of her marriage to her betrothed Joseph.
Though there are some in the so called christian church who follow such teachings as Omya quoted, the true church would never agree to it. As muslims believe that to follow Jesus Christ is akin to blasphemy, so would the true church feel about putting Mary into a position where she is "like the most high God" be blasphemous.
