ArchivedA Direct question to Linda BeeLinda, you clearly again tried to avoid the question I posed to you, would you like another chance to answer it? The legal codes presented here stemmed from a focus on God's holiness. After the exile, Israel placed exceptional stress on holiness as the guiding principle for living and to counter the threstening presenec of ungodly people and unholy things and practices. Holiness laws were concerned that certain boundaries be maintained and that certain species and categories not be confused or mixed. Practices such as man having sexual intercourse with a woman during menstruation were seen as violations of God's holy order. This particular prohibition was apparently associated with the notion that when bodily fluids are emitted, a person is defiled. Accordingly, a man became "unclean until the evening" if he had an emission of seman alone or during sexual intercourse with a woman. A woman spent more of her life being ceremonially unclean than did a man. She became unclean not only during sexual intercourse but also during menstruation and childbirth. Further, the laws stipulated longer periods of uncleanness for females. Purity laws affected the lives of women more than men by limiting their access to public cultic activities and places. SO what does this mean.....if you believe in your ONE LINE OF SCRIPTURE you presented to us, it means you also have to go and sacrifice two birds after your monthly visit from Aunt Flo. So I guess since all sin is the same in the eyes of God, we should start a forum for women and girls who do not sacrifice these animals after menstruation. Again, you have taken ONE VERSE out of context, offered NO SUPPORT behind the verse and ran around in yet another circular argument. I'm sorry Linda, but you are terribly confused, this passage says nothing about homosexuality, it is a code of laws for the new Israel. The ONLY passage in reference to homosexuality is Romans 1. The message was brought to you by Paul in Romans one. Here is my opinion of Romans 1!!! Many interpreters concluded that Paul viewed the confusion of sex roles as a characteristic of the pagan world and one result of their rejection of God the creator. In this manner, the qpostle depicts the general depravity of the entire Gentile world. Here, Paul is not simply describing individuals; he cannot think about individuals apart from their corrupted world. It is critical to note that Romans 1:26-27 is part of Paul's major argument in which he seeks to demonstrate not only the "fallenness" of the Gentile world but also the sinfulness of the Jews because they have failed the Torah. Paul develops his argument so that his readers first feel revulsion against "those sinful Pagans." The passage culminates (in 2:1ff) with the condemnation of those who judge others. Both Jews and Gentiles stand in need of God's redemptive activity in Jesus Christ: "ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (3:23). It is important to realize that Paul is not primarily concerned here to attack specific vices; he uses the illustrations to point to his main theological argument. This is not to overlook Paul's judgement of same-sex activity, but it does suggest that the Apostle is not "out to get them," as some people have assumed. Even if we conclude that Paul's judgement on same-sex acts is clearly negative, this does not necessarily determine the significance of the text for us today. Moralists of Paul's day viewed homosexual practice as exploitative and driven by lust. If this was the kind of same-sex activity that Paul had in mind in Romans 1:26-27, there is a reason to question how appropriate this text is for addressing same sex relationships in which there is a mutual love and commitment. It is sad the confusion YOU have Linda, tell us, do you have a homosexual son, or a homosexual friend that you were once attracted to? Buffy the Vampire slayer is a very sexual show, I have seen homosexuals on there, acting, and portraying roles......I guess you are going to go straight to hell for lust....and that upsets me, I was planning on giving you a huge hug when I finally met you in heaven, perhaps then both of us will understand the actual truth as it is presented to us by the Lord God himself. Until then, we can only run around in circles and speculate as to the outcome. Do you realize that the word CAT was never mentioned in the Bible....does this mean they dont exist? |
