I know we're supposed to turn the other cheek, but I don't believe in ignoring jerks like the members of this cult. I believe that by ignoring them, people give them more power. To them, it's the equivalent of saying: "I agree with everything you're saying. Go ahead and picket another gay funeral. I won't stand in your way."
Although I didn't appreciate being called a wh*re (Especially since it is SO not true. Look at the definition of wh*re! I definitely don't fit it. LOL), I'm glad I stood up to them. It made me feel good, because I knew I was doing the right thing. I don't agree with the gay lifestyle, but there are some really nice people out there who happen to be gay. While I don't support their lifestyle, I do support them as people.
Did you guys know that one of my favorite actors is Sir Ian McKellen? (Kicked butt as Gandalf, BTW! )
Did you know that one of my favorite singers/musicians is Elton John? (NODS)
If anyone else is interested in standing up to the Westboro cult members, here's their address: info@godhatesamerica.com
Maybe we should create a thread full of responses from them? That way, people will know who the true monsters are. Not the decent, law-biding, caring individuals who are true Christians. But the people like Fred Phelps, who apparently have nothing better to do than to spread hatred and bigotry.
You know, I once read an article talking about Fred. The author theorized that maybe - just maybe - Fred is, in fact, gay. Sometimes (Not all the time, but sometimes), the saying rings true: you are what you hate.
