I have noticed that there are several Catholics on this board and I was wondering about confession. Do you believe that a person must keep track of every sin he or she commits and confess it to a priest or do you believe you can confess directly to God?
Also, from what I was reading it seemed to say that in the Catholic Church you are taught that if a person doesn't confess a sin that sin will not be forgiven them and then they will die and go to purgatory or hell.
Is confession really that big a deal in the Roman Catholic church? Why?
Are you only required to confess if the holy spirit is convicting you of the sin?
1 John 1:9 says- If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
Does that mean every single sin?
