ArchivedConfession- question for CatholicsNo, I simply know from reading my Bible that the disciples would later become apostles. That's what the book of Acts is all about, remember? It's the Acts of the Apostles. Because he will! Just because the apostles had the authority to forgive people's sins, doesn't mean that God and Jesus aren't doing it anymore. And remember that the apostles could only possess this authority in the first place because Jesus had already died on the cross for our sins! Note also that the apostles only had authority to forgive the sins of individuals (not the entire world) and even then only when those individuals were truly repentant. That's why Peter was able to kill Ananias and Sapphira when they lied about selling their land - because he had judged them with the authority invested in him by Christ, and determined that their sins should be "retained" instead of forgiven. So he killed them with the power of the Holy Spirit, as he was authorised to do. So what? Did they ever need to? I don't think so. Are you calling Jesus a liar? After all, he's the one who gave them the authority to forgive sins. It's right there in John 20:
