ArchivedThe Psychology of Sexual PrejudiceDo you practice your definition of love in action? From what you have posted you do not or you would not be attacking what you do not understand. One reason I was banned from one Christian message board is because I called one of the men who made an anti-gay post that was filled with hate an unloving bigot who did not understand the Bible. You posted “Loving somebody is to accept them for what they are, who they and what they have done, regardless of your own feelings, beliefs, wishes or creeds.” This is the Biblical meaning of “love”. You and others gay supporters who come to the forum and call me names because you refuse to accept what I believe violate your own definition of “love”. On the other hand those gay leaders I deal with face-to-face understand me and we “love” each other in spite of our differences. As to your question about which denomination accepts my “understanding” of Scripture off hand I can’t think of one. And the reason is that most, if not all denominations are doctrine driven not Bible driven. One of my favorite quotes from Chuck Swindoll goes something like this: “Just as being in a garage does not make you a car, so just being in a church does not make you a Christian.” The word “love” is used 219 times in the NAS translation of the Bible. Here are three sections of Scripture that are most relevant to our discussion. Therefore any denomination that preaches or practices hate against the gay community does not understand the Bible; they are interpreting the Bible. Also any denomination that attempts to void God’s revealed truth regarding homosexual behavior does not understand the Bible they are interpreting the Bible. To take this one step further: When the political religious right judges the gay community they do so in violation of what we are told. The political religious right has the Biblical authority to judge only the actions of professed Christians. Now about those who come to me for information, they have already read what gay activists and gay theology has to say. Joe Dallas is one of those independent professional experts in psychology you refer to. He is not only ex-gay he is a qualified and licensed psychologist who believes and practices good psychology, which means he does not push his religious beliefs upon his clients. On the other hand you would push bad science on those who seek to understand the whys of their sexual orientation. If you can get a copy of “Homosexuality” by Bieber, which was deemed the best book written on counseling those seeking help in overcoming homosexuality by the APA when it was published in 1969 you will find good information and Bieber is not a Christian. In the 3 decades since this book was published colleges and universities have chosen to educate mental health professionals as bigots who do not practice that the clients goals should be their focus not professional pride and pronouncements. You refuse to consider the findings and studies by independent professionals based on their professed faith or lack of faith. Now that is real research isn’t it? You should join in the discussions in the science forum where atheists use the same argument and then want to forget that some of the greatest scientific discoveries can be attributed to scientists who just happen to be Christians. Sound science should not be judged by a person’s faith. Now, are you going to discount this Netherland’s study because the professionals disagree with you? Answer this question for me; if both APA’s, the AMA, and other professional organizations are so sure they are correct why do they refuse to sanction new studies to prove their position? I can also quote overwhelming evidence from independent experts that contradict your experts. So what all this boils down to is opinions of men with equal credentials. |
