Christian/Muslim ThreadsAre there elements of paganism in the religion of Islam?gerani wrote: Thanks for your reply gerani You are right the kissing of the black stone might be a symbol, but of what, and from where does it originate? That's what I meant by pagan elements. If the black stone is a symbol divinity, we need to ask from which divinity its symbolic purpose originated, and it is a fact that a range of ancient religions used to worship and kiss meotorites as divinities or symbols of divinities, oppinions may vary among scholars. I dont think that you can compare the kissing of the black stone with the kissing of a crucifix. First of all, no where in the New Testament are Christians told to carry crosses as literal symbols (the cross is something used as a spoken symbol of persecution). We are not even told or encouraged to use the crucifix as Christian symbol, and there is certainly no mention of kissing crucifixes or any other symbols. Secondly, you do not find Jesus or any of the apostles using symbols or crucifixes, yet even kissing them. Any such practice is alien to the true Christian faith and its teaching. Peace Kai |
