The Bible does say that men are head over their wives as Christ is head over the church.. but there is more and this is the difficult bit.. men are meant to love and lay down their lives for their wives, as Christ laid down his life for the Church. (Ephesians 5)
Yes.. the whole husband/wife relationship is meant to reflect the relationship between Christ and the Church.. but if a husband is laying down his life for his wife and loving her as Christ loved the church, how can he lord it over her? In loving and laying down his life for the church , Philippians says that Christ put aside his Deity and made Himself nothing taking on the form of a servant. . Submission is easy in that situation and there is a sense of equality there too.. both partners are putting the other before themselves which is a very biblical principal for all believers. "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves." Phillippians 2:2-10
