A fair amount of Muslims on this forum, claim that such is not rape but the right of the master or the soldier on the battlefield, and an honour. Here I simply fail to see the difference between rape and forcing a captive women into sex; I am not sure about your opinion, and I would not mind hearing that. The Quran clearly states:
In this case the victims are slaves of a master; I know that some Muslims have claimed that female slaves are wives, however, notice that the passage points out two groups: 1) the wives to whom you have granted dowries; 2) the slave girls. Another one is: Again we have a mention of Wives and slave girls! Tabari vol.39, p.194 records that Muhammad had Christian slave girl name Mariyam, which he never married according to my knowlegde; Muhammad however engaged in sexual activity with her, and she gave birth to a son who died 18 months old (do correct me on this one, if I am wrong). However, according to Sahih Bukhari vol.5#637 Ali had sex with a slave girl whom he saw and found beautiful, and Muhammad seemed to have no objections. Muhammad had no objections to this, and I find it rather ungodly that Muhammad should state that Ali deserves more than this. In the Old Testament even Jews keept slaves, however, there is not indication that they were permitted to rape these slaves. It is a fact that both Abraham and Jacob did so, when their actual wives enforced them to have sex with house slaves, virtually because they (the wives) were unable to have children. Yet again this was a cultural decision which pre-dates the Mosaic Law (the Torah) and which goes against the standard of God. I guess that in ancient Arabia in the same way as in ancient Israel being part of a family unit, whether as a family member or a slave was necessary for survival. The only difference is that the Mosaic Law (the Torah) does not permit sex with slaves in the same manner, in fact in the context slaves girls were married to the master or a son. Otherwise no sexual indication is to be found. What is worse than the treatment of domesticated slaves in Islam, is the treatment of war captives; here is one example:
The passage clearly shows, that they are concerned about their prices, which means that after the rape they will drag these women to the slave market and sell them. This is further supported by a second passage: In this case they were concerned about impregnating them, that would reduce the price. There are several incidents like this, in which Muhammad permits it, and there are two cases when the whole incident is supported by the Qur'an:
Sura 4: 24 says: AND ALL MARRIED WOMEN ARE FORBIDDEN UNTO YOU SAVE THOSE CAPTIVES WHOM YOUR RIGHT HAND POSSESS. Hence it is difficult to get around the problem, since Muhammad clearly permitted such practice, as is recorded in reliable hadits, and which further is supported by the Quran. Hope you are not offended by this sister! You seem to be a nice person, so my intention is not to hurt you, I am sorry if I have. But many of us here, see it as our duty to expose Islam on this matter, first of all because such practice is evil, but also because thousands of our Christian sisters and mothers are victims of such practice in Muslim countries. One example being Sudan, where atleast 200.000 Christians are still kept in slavery, and where run-away slaves report rape and gang-rape as a every day experience. I am sure you despise such practice too. |
