Some if not all Trinitarians appeal to the above as proof that Jesus is God. However, this argument denies that in the above the LORD is the one and only God. So who is the LORD?
The LORD is the Father. The Hebrew word rendered (not translated) LORD is hwhy:
Therefore what Trinitarians refuse to acknowledge is that the OT refers to the Father as the only true God and Savior and the Holy One of Israel. There is not one OT verse that tells us the LORD is a compound unity consisting of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. However, there are several that tell us the LORD is the Father.
Deuteronomy 32:6
6 "Do you thus repay the LORD,
O foolish and unwise people?
Is not He your Father who has bought you? NAS
Isaiah 63:16
16 For Thou art our Father, though Abraham does not know us,
And Israel does not recognize us.
Thou, O LORD, art our Father,
Our Redeemer from of old is Thy name. NAS
Isaiah 64:8
8 But now, O LORD, Thou art our Father,
We are the clay, and Thou our potter;
And all of us are the work of Thy hand. NAS
Jeremiah 3:19
And I said, 'You shall call Me, My Father,
And not turn away from following Me.' NAS
In spite of the rampant antisemitism of many professed Christians we must remember that Jesus Christ and His disciples were Jews and neither Jesus nor His disciples departed from the Hebrew foundation of Christianity by teaching God took on human flesh and dwelt among us. In fact Jesus refers to the LORD as His Father and His God as do Peter, John, Paul, and etc.
