Science, Creation & EvolutionQuestions from Christian to Atheist or EvolutionistI'm a Christian, and basic evolutionist. The initial process was whatever the means that God intended for the universe to be created. I think the Big Bang theory still holds the highest ground. I do believe that God took a slow approach to creation, verses a very rapid approach. So something must, by logic and common sense, have stepped in and seeded life. That would be the best assumption. Evolution, as is the consensus, only pertains to things already existing. Life could not have come from nonlife, based on how complex life is. That is an absolute fact. Life does change in different evnironments, and over eons of time. Man is to have dominion over this world. This is our world that God created for Himself, firstly, and for us. The step from asexual to sexual reproduction. Can scientists explain this yet? If they can't by now, or show how such a thing evolved, then maybe it was time for a divine intervention, so to speak. Or maybe it just formed, over time. Even some small unicellular creatures have sexual reproduction, and asexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction is a much more favorable means for passing on genes, it allows for more variation among progeny. Life never formed from dead matter. Someone formed life. Many Christians feel that evolution is this bad, unchristian belief. No, that couldn't be more wrong. Evolution is a way for God to create life without too much "magic". It's also a way for life to continue to exist through times of great change. For instance, at the end of the Permian and between the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods were huge massive changes that destroyed alot of life. Animals need to have variant DNA to enable some of them to survive. A byproduct of this genetic variance and populations favoring certain mutations over others results, over long periods of time, is that new species formed. |
