Science, Creation & EvolutionAnimal pain vs. human pain, physiology, and GodThen suddenly after 30 years I realised the mosquito was probably like that New Zealand bird. The mosquito's stinger was probably used to extract its food from a plant -- a plant we've now made extinct. Without its food supply, the mosquito started stinging animals to get their blood as an alternate food supply.

Although this is a nice theory it is only half right. The male mosquito still gets its food from plants, the female mosquito is the one that bites and the reason is the female mosquito needs blood to reproduce.
Mosquito Facts
- Mosquitoes are found worldwide across all temperature zones. They comprise more than 2,000 species.
- Relatively few mosquitoes carry human pathogens.
- Only female mosquitoes feed on blood. The blood triggers ovarian activity, and after a few days she lays several hundred eggs. A few weeks later, the eggs hatch. Two or three days later, they become full adult mosquitoes. The male mosquito feeds on nectar from flowers.
Mosquitos are capable of biting more than once. After the female mosquito deposits her eggs, she may seek another blood meal.
