ArchivedWhy is divorce never allowed? :: divorce:hard, over-easy or scrambleddivorce:hard, over-easy or scrambled
I wish that you had discussed this more, Truth seeker Joshua, and by the way, Hello, there, friend! My divorce was over twenty years ago. I was in a fundamentalist church at the time, and they took the hard teaching that began this thread. It all sounds good, and in no way do I support easy divorces, but it seems to me that only two kinds of people support this view: those who have never had to go through it themselves, and those who are perhaps mentally unstable. They always go to the verses they can beat you up with. Let's face it: some people have a black belt in the Bible and they're not afraid to use it! The word bound in v.15 above is the same word that is used when a slave is freed. If the unbeliever leaves, the believer is set totally and uncondtionally free. He or she may even remarry, although it will look mighty suspicious if it happens in two months. (Ten years seperate my marriages.) The worst thing we can do is treat those who are divorced as spiritual lepers, or second rate Christians. There is a difference in how divorce comes about, and a divorce of boredom and convenience is a different thing from a wife leaving her husband and child after a fling with another man. |
