Soft tissue has been found on a T. Rex fossil and if you checked out the link I posted there is a picture of what was found. Included with the picture was this comment: "New research by a North Carolina State University paleontologist, however, could literally turn that theory inside out." So the question is how did the tissue survive for 68 million years. This discovery also can be used to question the supposed age of 68 million years for the fossil. As to this discovery not damaging either side of this issue, that is debateable.
I am not arguing that they did indeed find soft tissue on a dinosaur. My point is that without some form of preservation, it would be impossible.
Otherwise, you have a good point here. We do not yet know how this was preserved so well.
