Judaism ForumQuestions for my Jewish Brothers and Sisters :: Re: Questions for my Jewish Brothers and SistersThe biggest differences? The Jewish faith believes that Jesus was nothing more than a well spoken carpenter's son. Thats a rather big difference. Also, the idea of hell is a fairly alien idea, and rightly so as it was adopted from the norse. The only time it really mentioned is in Job, and the average rabbi is none too happy with that book. There is an afterlife, it simply has no known definition. Another major difference is fundamentalism. Yeah, you have a few oddballs who beleive that the bible is to be believed exactly as written, there is even a small cult who continues to make sacrifices at the sight of the old Temple. Even so, nearly all men of the faith think that interpretation is not only possible, but absolutely essential to understanding their God's word. It is hard to believe that the supposedly perfect word of a perfect deity fails to use metaphor, allegory, and various other literary devices. I grew up going to Yeshiva for 9 years. If you have any more questions about the Jewish faith, i'll be happy to answer them. |
