ArchivedAWESOME!!! :: First Q&A session with the WitnessesFirst Q&A session with the Witnesses The phrase, But with reference to the Son clearly means that the Father is talking about the Son. However, Geraldine doesn't see how the Father could be calling the Son "God," and not "a god." (Well, at least she wasn't able to explain it away with altered historical data or other tricks the Witnesses use to confuse non-Witnesses.) Geraldine and C also brought up the fact that the Father and the Son have names, but it doesn't seem that the Holy Spirit has a name. This, they say, proves that the Holy Spirit is not a person. My mom pointed out that the name of the Holy Spirit is the Counselor. That makes sense to me. But I just know that if I bring this up, Geraldine and C will insist that "Counselor" is merely a title. When I brought up the fact that the Holy Spirit can be blasphemed, grieved, etc., Geraldine countered with the following questions. (This is the paraphrased version, of course. I don't remember her exact statement, obviously.) She then said that it would make sense that Jehovah's spirit would be grieved. Meaning, that His feelings would be hurt. But she insisted that the Holy Spirit is merely God's active force, and that He is without personality. I was unable to reference the Scripture that clearly states that the Holy Spirit is male, proving that He is a person and is clearly a member of the Trinity. Another thing that was brought up was Matthew 24:36, where it's made clear that only the Father knows the day and the hour. My argument was that Jesus was not born with knowledge about everything and that He even had to learn certain things as He grew up. I also brought up the fact that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Therefore, if He was not omniscient on Earth, why would He be any different in Heaven, if He will never change? I do have good news, though. Unless things change, Geraldine and C are scheduled for another visit next Tuesday morning. Although they cannot understand aspects of the Christian faith and are convinced that I am the one who is doomed, they do enjoy our visits. Geraldine even appreciates the fact that a "youngin'" like yours truly is so inquisitive, eager to learn, and willing to study the Bible. I know they probably think that I'm a potential convert, but I do think this is encouraging. One last thing before I go. Geraldine and C read Scriptures from their Bible, and asked me to read Scriptures from my NIV. Geraldine was surprised to find that some Scriptures in the NIV are similar to Scriptures in the NWT. I told my mom about this tonight, telling her that I was surprised at Geraldine's statement, because earlier, she had hinted that she has read the NIV. (We were talking about how the NIV is easier to understand than the KJV.) My mom brought up that Geraldine's amazement that the NIV and the NWT are somewhat simliar in certain verses may mean that she's beginning to feel uncertain about her faith. So keep praying, guys!!! I honestly am wondering if the reason why Geraldine and C want to meet with me again is because the Spirit is drawing them. But in any case, PRAY!!! |
