Religious Cults & False Prophets~ Discussions and DebatesModalism: Heresy Or Catholic Persecution of Truth?
First of all I never claimed that the Modalists taught about speaking in tongues as the evidence of Spirit baptism. And besides if you are so curious there's no need to search the history the books - simply visit a Oneness Pentecostal Church and witness it in person. As for your proof text quotes: The one from James A. Robinson sounds correct ( ie the name of the Father and the Son are the same which would be Jesus) but the other source contradicts it by saying Sabellius said the Father and the Son are "one in substance but in name two" which is not what I believe or other Oneness Pentecostals believe. So now we have contradicting sources "one name" and "two name" Come on Aineo, you have read enough of my posts to know that I have proclaimed the name of Jesus as the only one name. No wonder Oneness Pentecostals are shocked. I have no idea what a "Monad" is or "dilation"? As for Gnosticism look at your trinity doctrine which claims Jesus pre-existed as the Son (I assume in Spirit form like the Father) who came to earth as a man. That is a Spirit manifest as a man - classic Gnosticism! The only difference in that case is I believe as a Oneness Pentecostal, God could get the job done on His own without a second omnipresent Spirit co-equal Son. You're just posting any old scrap of information that happens to tickle your fancy. Do you ever read what you quote? What I quoted in my sources was general summary to define the term in a very general sense in reference to Oneness as there are several other "isms" within the subject. I simply quoted the common theme between all of them and balanced them with an historical quote from Tertullian which I noticed you conveniently left out. What must be considered in quoting such sources for Modalism and Gnosticism is that they are man-made observations by unbelievers of the Apostolic faith of Jesus Christ and Christianity in general. Like I said before in ONE NAME-ONE GOD post, must we now rip out the Gospel of John, the Book of Acts, and the Book of Revelation out of the Bible just because some unbeliever calls them Gnostic and dismisses them? |
