ArchivedHell - eternal or not? From the thread "Sin: are we reconciled or are we not": I think I agree with you that hell is not eternal..... I think, but I'm not sure. It is true that hell/sheol is not the final resting place of all those who go there. However, from what I'm gathering of what you say, you believe that those in hell will all be cleansed and eventually sent to heaven. I'd like to see your proof of that, because as I read Revelation, I see that all those in hell are brought before a Great White Throne and everyone whose name is not in the Book of Life (the reading implies that all those who went to hell in the first place are those that are not in the Book of Life) is thrown into the Lake of Fire, which is eternal. We also read that death and hell are thrown into the Lake of Fire - this is what makes me think that hell is eternal. You said that you came out of the Catholic church, but it sounds like you still hold to some of their beliefs (purgatory, in this case). Purgatory is a slap in the face to God. He said that there is no way to get to heaven except through His Son, but here I hear you say that this is not the case. All you have to do if you don't want to accept Christ is to serve a few years in purgatory, and then you'll be fine. That, my friend, is a works-based salvation. And God has no tolerance for works-based salvation. |
