ArchivedMaryJust going to present a little research I have been doing. Basically this started with who is James for the James class and I got interested in it so I started breaking it down for my own information. Hate to bore you with this stuff, it may not be correct since the research isn't done and this is primarily done as a learning thing I do for myself and should be unbiased. Please feel free to correct anything I messed up on.
Matthew 10:2-4
Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the tax-gatherer; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, who was surnamed Thaddaeus; Simon the Cananaean, and Judas the Iscariote, who also delivered him up.
From this we can determine that
Simon(Peter) and Andrew was brothers.
James the son of Zebedee and John was brothers
and that there was 2 James.
James the son of Alphaeus
James the son of Zebedee
If at the cross John was declared by Jesus to become Mary's son
then Jesus's brother also became James since James and John was brothers and their father was Zebedee.
Galatians 1:19. But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother.
Or Jospeh(Jesus's earthly father) died and Mary married Zebedee?
Also it should be noted that Jude was also James and John's brother.
Or
Jude was the brother of James the son of Alphaeus
Jude 1
1. Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:
Acts 1:13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Jude the brother of James.
The word used for either Judas or Jude matches. So the context matches as to which person is referred to as to Matthew 10:4 but Acts 1:13 is translated in the KJV as Judas which probaly should be Jude?

Here's the topic search for Zebedee and Alphaeus.
Zebedee wrote:Matthew 4:21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
Matthew 10:2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
Matthew 20:20 Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.
Matthew 26:37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
Matthew 27:56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.
Mark 1:19 And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.
Mark 1:20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.
Mark 3:17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:
Mark 10:35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire.
Luke 5:10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
John 21:2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.
Alphaeus wrote:Matthew 10:3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;
Mark 2:14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.
Mark 3:18 And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite,
Luke 6:15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,
Acts 1:13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Jude the brother of James.
We can conclude that
Matthew was the son of Alphaeus.
James was the son of Alphaeus.
And possible that Thomas was the son of Alphaeus?
The next part started with Matthew 27:56 and who is Joses in the KJV.
Matthew 27:56. Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.
Mary is Zebedee's wife and she is the mother of James and Joses.
Joses should be translated as Joseph's who was surnamed Barnabas!
Is this the same Barnabas who went with Paul?
If at the cross John was declared by Jesus to become Mary's son
then Jesus's brother also became James since James and John was brothers and their father was Zebedee.
If so then James, John, and Joseph who was surnamed Barnabas(Acts 4
36) became Jesus's Brother also by John at the cross?
Unsure about Jude still.
Matthew 27
55. And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:
56. Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.
There could have been 4 women here and one of them was Jesus's mother? Which one of the following was?
Stepmother of the Zebedee's children?
Mary Magdalene,
The mother(Alphaeus) of James,
The mother of Joseph,
and the mother of Zebedee's children.
John 19

But the problem occurs at Matthew 13:55 and Mark 6:3 and Mark 15:40,47 and Luke 2:43 which kinda leads me to believe that Jospeh(Jesus's earthly father) died and Mary married Zebedee? Unsure just following the trail.
