ArchivedMaryHmmm. "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23 is a true statement and "all" includes Mary or Paul would have written "except Mary". Can you read Hebrew, Aramaic, Chaldean, and Greek? How much do you know about Hebrew culture and common idioms? Jerome translated the Vulgate, not from the original languages but from the Septuagint and when he did he was free and loose with his translation by including "personal interpretations" that void God's truth. If you do not believe Joseph had two wives then who birthed Jesus' brothers and sisters? Do you want to rehash the Greek "adelphos", "adelphe", "anepsios", and "suggenes"? Apparently you do. The Greek is "anepsios", so would you care to prove that Greek does not have a word for "cousin". The NT was written in Greek for the edification of future generations and was not targeted to the Jews. I am in awe that God choose Paul, a Greek Jew to write much of the Bible. God knew the Catholic Church would tell lie after lie to establish heretical doctrines. Scripture is clear Mary had other children. Oh, we have proved our point, but you deny the truth and inerrancy of the Bible in order to add "holy tradition". "Let those who have ears listen." Mary referred to the fruit of her womb as "her Savior". Why would Mary need a Savior if she was born without sin and lived a sinless life? "The wages of sin is death", Romans 6:23 Mary died. Can God save people and lift them to Himself by an act of His sovereign will? Yes, just as He did Enoch and Elijah, neither of whom died. I don't believe any non-Catholic on this board has used "tradition" to establish any doctrine. However, to appeal to "Protestants" you know to establish truth is like me appealing to Catholics who worship Mary and believe she is their mediator and can save them. Is this truth according to Catholic doctrine? Assumption built upon assumption. Abraham lived about 160 years. Scripture states the life expectancy of men is 70 to 80 years of age (Psalms 90:10) . Modern men have decided the ancients would not have lived what we consider an average lifespan based on plagues and the early deaths of serfs who were maltreated and malnourished. I will add to what tuppence posted concerning the sufficiency of Scripture. Paul praised the Berean's for being more "noble-minded than those in Thessalonica" because they "searched the Scriptures daily" to see if what he taught was true. Acts 17:11 As tuppence stated the only Scriptures available to the 1st century disciples was the OT. |
