Rejoicing and Praising Jesus Christ Forum!Reply to unconvinceds current sig--Part 2Forgive me Jovaro if I do not reply to your posts as quickly as you may want in the near future. I have limited internet access these days and won't be able to come on as often as I used to until September. In the passage I gave it sure looks that way, because a distinction is being made from the spiritual, physical, and mental. Bear in mind that I do not want to get into a debate on how many definitions the word "mind" can possibly have. I am just pointing out that the Christian faith in not just based on feelings or a "burning in the bosom." Reasoning plays a big role in the Christian faith and this is what I am saying. But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear (1 Peter 3:15). In order for someone to use discernment, the intellect has to be involved. Christ called some of those who rejected Him hypocrites because they can discern trivial matters such as the weather, but did not even take the time to discern whether Christ was the Messiah through the Old Testament prophecies: Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time? (Luke 12:56). The same applies today. Many people can discern trivial things such as who will win a baseball game based on the pitching match-ups or who is the home team (since the home team in sports generally wins more than the road team) and people also discern things like "What am I going to wear today based on the weather?" All these things are trivial in light of the salvation which Christ offers. |
