If you use Norton Antivirus, many times when a virus is already on your pc, you may have to do a couple extra things to get rid of a virus. Sometimes the virus cannot be deleted or quarantined.
If you use Norton Antivirus and it tells you, that there is a virus but it is unable to clean, quarantine, or delete the virus then there are some steps you will have to do to remove the virus. Each virus is different so you will have to follow symantecs directions on deleting. First off, after the virus has shown up and cannot be dealt with, write down the name of the virus. Virsus names usually look like this:
W32.Netsky@mm
W32.HLLW.Anig
W32.Mydoom@mm
W32.Beagle@mm
W32.Gaobot
W32.Sober
Trojan.Qhosts
W32.Swen.A@mm
W32.Sobig.F@mm
W32.Dumaru
W32.Welchia.Worm
W32.Blaster.Worm
Backdoor.Winshell.50 (Just to name a few)
Copy the name of the virus down, then go to this site:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/av ... .list.html
Find your virus name then click on it. Copy or print all the directions off for removal of that virus.
WARNING!!!
Many times you will have to reboot in safe mode, symantec.com shows you how to do this, and will have to go into your registry and delete a certain file. They tell you, that you should backup your registry before doing this incase you mess up, but it's really pretty simple as long as you just don't go and start deleting stuff. Just be careful.
Once you have run the removal tool, and made all the necessary steps for removal, you should be able to keep your pc up todate with the virus definitions and it will keep you from having to remove and more viruses.
Hope this helps!
