Inspiration and Revelation is different. Inspiration is an idea, feeling, or meaning in the heart whereas Revelation belongs to God in both meaning and wording. We have Hadith Qudsi whose meaning, we believe, is from God but wording given by Muhammad pbuh. Like this one:
"Allah, Mighty and Exalted is He, said: If My servant likes to meet me, I like to meet him, and if he dislikes to meet Me, I dislike to meet him."
But Hadith Qudsi is not part of Qur'an.
The Qur'an mentions the following revelations in particular, which are sometimes called sheets or leaves (suhuf) and sometimes book or scripture (kitab): The 'sheets' of Abraham and Moses. The Torah (taurat) of Moses. The Psalms (zabur) of David. The Gospel (injil) of 'Jesus. The Qur'an of Muhammad.
VERSES AND HADITH ON THE ISSUE (also answers for Rome)
"And thus have We revealed to thee an Arabic Qur'an" (42:7).
"We have revealed it, revealing portion by portion" (17:106).
"The Holy Spirit has brought it down from thy Lord with truth" (16:102).
"Say: Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel- for he brings down the (revelation) to thy heart by God's will, a confirmation of what went before, and guidance and glad tidings, for those who believe" - (Al Qur'an 2:97).
'We have sent thee inspiration, as We sent it to Noah and the messengers after him: We sent inspiration to Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob and the tribes, to Jesus, Job, Jonah, Harun and Solomon, and to David We gave the Psalms. Of some apostles, We have already told the story, of others We have not and to Moses God spoke direct apostles who gave good news as well as warning, that mankind after (the coming) of the apostles should have no plea against God: for God is exalted in power and ways' (Al-Qur'an 4: 163-165).
'And verily We have written in the Psalms, after the Reminder: My righteous slaves will inherit the earth' (Al-Qur'an 21: 105).
"And this is in the Books of the earliest (Revelation),- The Books of Abraham and Moses' (Al-Qur'an 21: 105) (Inna hatha lafee alssuhufi al-oola, Suhufi ibraheema wa moosa)
'Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those with him are hard against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves. Thou (O Muhammad) seest them bowing and falling prostrate (in worship) seeking bounty from Allah and (His) acceptance. The mark of them is on their foreheads from the traces of prostration. Such is their likeness in the Torah and their likeness in the Gospel like as sown corn that sendeth forth its shoot and strengtheneth it and riseth firm upon its stalk, delighting the sowers that He may enrage the disbelievers with (the sight of) them. Allah has promised, unto such of them as believe and do good works, forgiveness and immense reward' (Al-Qur'an 48: 29).
"And it is not for any mortal that Allah should speak to him except by inspiration or from behind a veil or by sending a messenger and revealing by His permission what He pleases" (42:51).
'Likewise did we make for every messenger an enemy evil ones among men and jinns, inspiring each other with flowery discourses by way of deception ...' (Al-Qur'an 6: 112)
'so we sent this inspiration to the mother of Moses . . .' (Al-Qur'an 28: 7)
'It was We who revealed the law (to Moses): therein was guidance and light ... ' (Al-Qur'an 5: 47-8).
Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 1, Number 4:
Narrated Said bin Jubair: Ibn 'Abbas in the explanation of the Statement of Allah. 'Move not your tongue concerning (the Quran) to make haste therewith." (75.16) Said "Allah's Apostle used to bear the revelation with great trouble and used to move his lips (quickly) with the Inspiration." Ibn 'Abbas moved his lips saying, "I am moving my lips in front of you as Allah's Apostle used to move his." Ibn 'Abbas added, "So Allah revealed 'Move not your tongue concerning (the Qur'an) to make haste therewith. It is for us to collect it and to give you (O Muhammad) the ability to recite it (the Qur'an) (75.16-17) which means that Allah will make him (the Prophet ) remember the portion of the Qur'an which was revealed at that time by heart and recite it. The Statement of Allah: And 'When we have recited it to you (O Muhammad through Gabriel) then you follow its (Qur'an) recital' (75.18) means 'listen to it and be silent.' Then it is for Us (Allah) to make It clear to you' (75.19) means 'Then it is (for Allah) to make you recite it (and its meaning will be clear by itself through your tongue). Afterwards, Allah's Apostle used to listen to Gabriel whenever he came and after his departure he used to recite it as Gabriel had recited it."
Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 1, Number 5:
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Allah's Apostle was the most generous of all the people, and he used to reach the peak in generosity in the month of Ramadan when Gabriel met him. Gabriel used to meet him every night of Ramadan to teach him the Qur'an. Allah's Apostle was the most generous person, even more generous than the strong uncontrollable wind (in readiness and haste to do charitable deeds).
Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 60, Number 478:
Narrated Aisha (the wife of the Prophet): The commencement (of the Divine Inspiration) to Allah's Apostle was in the form of true dreams in his sleep, for he never had a dream but it turned out to be true and clear as the bright daylight.
