ArchivedErrors in the Bible?Hello Kaiser!
Because Jehoiachin is described by Ezekiel{Ezek. 19:6}as a ferocious youn lion, it seems unlikely that he was merely eight years old at his accesion. A marginal reading of the Hebrew text here, several ancient versions, and 2 Kings 24:8 record his age as eighteen, probably the correct figure. The age given in 36:9 was more than likely miscopied. From the Syrians{Arameans}1,000 chariots, 7,000 charioteers, and 20,000 footmen or soldiers were captured, as well as 22,000 Aramean soldiers were also killed, Thus 40,000 “horsemen” in 2 Samuel 10:18 and 40,000 footmen in verse 18 of 1 Chronicles 19 are merely rounded off figures for the 42,000 foot soldiers that were either captured or killed. The word horsemen in 2 Samuel 10:18 is therefore imprecisely used or may have been miscopied from the listing in 2 Samuel 8:4 It is written:Revelation 21:1 - And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 Peter 3:13 - Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. These passages are referring to a remodeling of the earth and not the destruction of it. God Bless! |
