-Quote from my friend Nick:
But what are the major disagreements between Catholics and Protestants? And what scripture do they interpret differently?
Sorry i'm not too clued up on this, but i'm here to learn.....
I've come to the conclusion that churches need to be more biblical. It's the only instruction we have from God, and one that needs to be extolled in our regular worship.
But I don't want Churches selecting bits of the Bible, talking about them solely and telling me what to think. I'm also up for Churches at least explaining why they perform things [e.g. Communion] the way they do, without just doing it and saying "because".
Unfortunately I don't see this happening in any denomination any time soon.

Hi Nick.....it's DMP
I would also like to be of some help if I have your permission. The last thing I would want to do is cause a division in the room. I truly am enjoying and learning from all.
My take is a little different though.
For example...The Catholics believe that baptism is necessary for salvation while the Protestants believe faith alone saves you.
The Catholics pray to Saints and refer to Mary as "Mother of God" and think of her as divine...Protestants...well...protest this.
Catholics believe Peter was the first Pope of Rome...Protestants say that there's not even any proof that Peter was ever in Rome. (this one really goes back and forth).
(Wonder where Paul fits in this because we know he was in Rome but was never a Pope?)
....Nick - are you beginning to get the picture?
The Catholics view the Pope as the one to turn to since the Christ is not here and has the final word on things though it might, might, might not be in scripture because he speaks for God...Protestants .......protest this.
The Catholic Church declares that they are the Mother of all christians expecially the Protestants because all who baptize using their formula "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit have used the sacred sacrament for salvation that forgives sin.
Catholics are baptized if at all possible when they're infants but eventually moved away from immersion to sprinkling...Baptist and others are dead against infant baptism. In fact all Protestants when they first split from the Catholic Church believed you had to be immersed or you were not saved. Many do not today though.
Nick...I have some facts of historical significance and of course my opinion as well. If interested in my view of things any further just let me know. But the last thing I desire is for anyone (Catholic or Protestant) to be offended. Because the reason I'm here is to learn.
But I've committed my life to as Paul said "to become all things to all men that I might save some"
But if I'm disagreed with I very much crave to always remain friends.
It doesn't hurt my feelings to be disagreed with but it does hurt if you choose to not like me.
Thanks and Bless you Big
DMP
PS. Have you taken the second test yet?
