2nd. Committing a sin and committing a good deed is not a 1 to 1 ratio. Therefore, you can’t kill somebody one day and then give money to the poor and your record is wiped clean. Committing that murder still has your soul on the negative side of the “scale”. I think it can be looked at more like a sliding scale from negative numbers to 0 to positive numbers. So, for my scenario above committing that murder may have you at -1000, but giving money to the poor might decrease the number to -900. At least this is how I view it.
