Text: feminine of 352; an oak or other strong tree: --elm, oak, teil-tree.
In Hebrew it meant an oak tree and in arabic it meant the moon god they worshipped.

Just to correct this. Allah, in arabic does not mean "Moon God"
Moon God in arabic is called "ilaahul qamar"
<Pardon for using arab, i'm not too sure of pickthall>
Allah comes from the word "Al-ilah"
"Al" means "The"
"ilah" means "God"
Therefore "Al-ilah" means "The God"
The reason why "Allah" is use by the islamic world instead of "Al-ilah" is this.
Ancient Arabs decided that "Al-ilah" was quit complicated to pronounce especially the word is usually spoken continuously in prayers. So by making the pronounciation easy, the Arabs changed the spelling to "Allah".
There are also other arabic words that are changed by the Arabs so as to suit their convenience. "Allah" is one of the words.
They changed the spellling but the meaning is still the same. And Moon God is not the meaning of "Allah". Perhaps u have look upon the wrong dictionary.
